It's the most "colorful" time of the year, as the choral ensembles of Windy City Performing Arts: Windy City Gay Chorus and Aria: Windy City Women's Ensemble, proudly present their 2007 Pride Concert: "Pride-In Technicolor."
Join us for one of the most exciting concert events of the year, as Windy City Performing Arts caps its 2006-2007 performance season with one of the most avant-garde, eclectic and diverse concerts ever performed-presented in the acoustically-dynamic, 150-seat Hoover-Leppen Theater at the Center on Halsted.
"Pride-In Technicolor", under the direction of Windy City Performing Arts' Interim Music Director Alan Wellman, will feature a virtual rainbow tapestry of songs and styles, including WCPA premieres of musical masterpieces from show tunes to showstoppers (and just about everything in between!). Featured on the program are the combined choruses' performance of "Coat of Many Colors" from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." The men of Windy City Gay Chorus take the stage to perform songs ranging from the classic "We Sail The Ocean Blue" from Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore, adapted and arranged by Ruth Artman, to a men's chorus extravaganza called "Manly Men" by Kurt Knecht that pays homage (humorously of course) to all the great antics of men's choruses-and the Divas that inhabit them! Other wonderful tunes include the warmly sentimental "Rainbow Connection" from the Muppet Movie and the moving and poignant "Why We Sing," which was one of the featured songs at the 2006 Gay Games VII in Chicago.
Adding more texture to the program-from a woman's point of view, Aria: Windy City Women's Ensemble performs a delicious assortment of color-keyed classics. These variously-hued tunes range from the dark side of the spectrum, with Owen Goldsmith's arrangement of the melancholy folk ballad "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair," to the light side, with the upbeat novelty songs "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" and "Purple People Eater." Also included in the Aria lineup are the beautiful harmonies of "The Violet" by Mark Patterson and the ever popular "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music.
2007 Spring Concert
As a special "thank you" to Ebenezer Lutheran Church for sharing their rehearsal space with us since 2003, Windy City Performing Arts is donating the proceeds from our upcoming Spring concert
toward Ebenezer's Capital Campaign and music library.
"Signature Songs," features the premiere of new repertoire, selected favorites from past concerts and classics you can't get enough of. Join us in our last concert at Ebenezer Lutheran Church before we move to our exciting new home in June!
2006 Holiday Concert:
True Light on a Midwinter's Night
..."Performed the first weekend of December at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Windy City Performing Arts' 'True Light on a Midwinter's Night' was one of their finest good-will offerings, a radiant concert rich with serious Christmas fare impeccably performed by three ensembles under the excellence of new musical director Alan Wellman.
"The women's ensemble 'Aria' hit Yule gold with Britten's 'Ceremony of Carols,' while Windy City Gay Chorus' 'O Holy Night' and rollicking 'Hanerot Halalu' soared from their starts.
"Though smaller in numbers than their music requires, Unison... found their personal best in a Mozart 'Gloria' which followed a superb 'Gabriel's Message,' a kind of modern motet magnificently proclaimed from the church balconies to the altar.
"The musical forces saved their best for last when the haunting melody "Night of Silence" was artfully melded into ever more quiet "Silent Night." It was an exquisite moment of complete serenity that said more about the season that a thousand Christmas cards. Bravo, tutti!"

We're getting in touch with our feminine side-- in a most musical way, of course! In a truly inspiring concert that proudly pays tribute to our sisters in song, our 2006 Pride concert is devoted to the music and lyrics written by women, and about women.
This compelling performance features everything from the medieval chants of Hildegard von Bingen, standard classics by Dorothy Parker, contemporary rock by Alanis Morissette, and of course... show tunes, courtesy of the luminary ladies of Broadway!
As an extra-special treat, the ensembles of WCPA will proudly be joined by special guest artist Tret Fure at both performances. Tret Fure is one of the most prolific artists in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena, In 2004, she won the prestigious South Florida Folk Festival Songwriting Competition in two out of three categories, Best Up-Tempo and Best Overall, as well as the Phyllis Schliessman Award for Outstanding Contributions to WomenÕs Music. In addition to being a gifted songwriter, Fure possesses an uncanny mastery of musical technology. Over the past 30 years, Fure has engineered and produced countless recordings by a variety of artists, including her own work.
